Brief Description Of Activity

Host event or program sponsored by or on behalf of an educational institution or community organization relating to careers in broadcasting.

 

Throughout the reporting period, on-air talent from KDHL, KQCL and KRFO-AM/FM provided tours of our facilities to the Boy Scouts, providing behind-the-scenes insight into the operations of our stations.

 

March 15, 2011:  Cub Scouts Troop 309 – Faribault.

 

March 22, 2011:  Cub Scouts – Owatonna

Sponsor scholarship program

 

This reporting period marked the18th year in which this SEU sponsored a scholarship program called Scholar Dollars, which awards six $500 scholarships to local students planning to attend college and major in communications, marketing, or broadcasting. From February through April 15th, Owatonna’s guidance office collected applications for the scholarships. In May our sales manager worked with the school’s guidance office to review the candidates’ credentials and select the scholarship recipients. On May 20th, we hosted a breakfast at McDonalds Restaurant where we presented the scholarships to the selected candidates.

Career Fair

This SEU participated in a career fair at South Central College on March 23rd. The career fair ,called “Career Fest “, had local area high school students come in to learn and ask questions about jobs in different fields. Program directors John Anderson and Mike Eiler lead a group discussion during a session from 1:05 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.

Management level training regarding equal employment opportunity and preventing discrimination.

On January 20, 2011 the Business Manager and Market Manager participated in a Training/Recruitment Initiatives presentation regarding EEO.
